Biography

A bonafide Ayungonon, Mrs. Yolanda D. Elum was one of the nine children of Vivencio Gardon Depositario and Juliana Chua. She finished her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree at Foundation College (now Foundation University) in 1969. While granted with a full academic scholarship, she was always a consistent recipient of the Presidential Honor Award for Excellence in Academic Performance. She also worked as a full time teaching assistant in the Elementary Department of Foundation University during the last two years of her college life. She finished her college degree as valedictorian and was awarded as the Highest in Academic Grade Obtained and Most Outstanding Senior in Extra-Curricular Activities for Batch 1969.

Her career started as a public elementary teacher by the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports (DECS) at Ayungon Central School in 1970. By March of 1985, Mrs. Yolanda D. Elum achieved her Master of Arts Degree. Later on, she became a noble multi-awarded professor in the district, division, regional, national, and international levels and passed the MAT-B Examination for Schools Division Superintendents and for Directorship Positions. She was an Outstanding Teacher, Master Teacher, Principal, District Supervisor, Project Implementer, and an Outstanding United Nations Support Scheme Community Organizer. Was once awarded a tour in Melbourne, Australia and a Short Term Scholarship on Multi-Grade Teaching by the United Nation and the Foreign  Education of Melbourne Australia in June of 1997. From 1985 until her retirement on August 26, 2013, she had been serving as the president of the Public Schools District Supervisors Association, became a member of the Provincial School Board, Division Guidance and Investigation Committee, Division Ranking, Selection, and Promotion Board and was designated as the Mess Manager of the Division of Negros Oriental.

She began teaching in Negros College Incorporated on June, 2014 and then became the Senior High School Principal two years later. Currently, Mrs. Yolanda D. Elum is the school’s Director of NANCI Alumni Association.
