Money is an important factor when considering pursuit of higher education. I grew up in a family that belongs to the lower-middle class rung of society and it was difficult for us to afford the costly tuition and fees necessary to send me to good schools. My only recourse was to save up and work on earning scholarships.
Fortunately for me, two of those “good” schools were Negros Academy and Negros College. My hard work paid off as I was named one of the Academic scholars while there. The grants provided to me as a scholarship student helped not just myself, but my family as well. And instead of paying for tuition, I was able to allot budgets for my projects, research, and other school-related activities. Maintaining my grades to retain my scholarship was a challenge. But with a determination grounded in prayers and faith in God I was able to persevere. I eventually graduated Valedictorian at Negros Academy and am proud to say that I later completed my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with Cum Laude at Negros College.
Today, I work for the Department of Education as a public school teacher under the Division of City Schools, Manila and was recently promoted to Teacher II after three years of service.
My name is DJ NIÑO REVELIGIA MAPUTI, and I am a proud NANCIan!
