Higher education means a lot to me, and pursuing this is one of my greatest dream. But for me attaining such education is impossible because good education in our country cost a lot. We lost our father when I’m only 8 years of age, and we only have our mother who supports us financially together with my two siblings. We live at the house of my grandparents and we managed to have a small business, a sari-sari store and a barbeque stall that serves as our source of income that supports our daily needs.

Thankfully, Negros College was there, it made my impossible dream into possible one because of its “Study now, Pay later program”. I enrolled as Associate in Office Administration, a two-year course and I think that if I finish this it would be enough for me to have a descent job in the future. This opportunity means a lot to me,so I always make sure that I would never missed a day in school and a chance of helping my mother to run our small business, because it provides everything we needed. My daily routine revolves in waking up early in preparation of our store, afterwards, I prepare my self for the upcoming morning class, going home if there is a vacant time due to broken schedule, and going back to school, I made this possible with my bicycle as my means of transportation.

Maintaining a good grade gives me so much challenge but together with hard work, dedication and prayer, I graduated with honors and was given an opportunity to continue my course with bachelor’s degree and with full scholarship, and I’m very grateful to Mr. Bertito Grapa for giving me such a wonderful blessing.
Year 2007 was very hard for me, I’m on my third year and an incident happened, my mother got sick and was hospitalized month before the school year end, and then she died a few weeks after, I was so devastated and wasn’t able to go to school for few weeks, but Negros College never give up on me, they’ve given me a chance to cope up with my lessons with their summer class program.

My last year in Negros College was the most challenging year for me, I lost my mom who supports me in everything, but that never stopped me on pursuing my dream, I doubled my effort, I manage the store while studying, and I also made use of my God’s given talent which is art, I helped my classmates and even other students in other departments on their projects and they pay me for that and there I get my allowance and for my expenses in school.

Being the eldest is very hard, especially when you have nothing to turn to but God, prayers helped a lot and it gives me strength not to give up, so after those years of struggles and hardships, finally, I was able to graduate my bachelor’s degree with a high honors, Cum laude.

Now, I’m part of those what we call “Frontliners”, I’m currently working at the leading trusted and caring drugstore in the Philippines.
My name is Crisphine Adorna Butlay and I am a proud NANCian!
