
The Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) is a four-year program that aims to develop highly motivated and competent teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for elementary education. After successful completion of all academic requirements of the degree/program, graduates of BEED should be able to practice the teaching profession in the elementary level of Grades 1-6.
Over the years, 67% of all Negros College graduates have passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and those successful examinees are highly sought after for open elementary school teaching positions with the Department of Education.
Program Outcomes
One of the primary goals of a Bachelor of Elementary Education graduate is to pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers. As such, we expect our students to achieve the following during their time at Negros College:
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the diversity of learners in various learning areas.
- Manifest meaningful and comprehensive pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of the different subject areas.
- Utilize appropriate assessment and evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes.
- Manifest skills in communication, higher order thinking and use of tools and technology to accelerate learning and teaching.
- Demonstrate positive attributes of a model teacher, both as an individual and as a professional.
- Manifest a desire to continuously pursue personal and professional development.
Prerequisites
Requirements to be admitted into the Bachelor in Elementary Education program of Negros College:
- Incoming Freshmen must have a GPA of 80% and above in their Grade 12 report card
- Transferees must have a GPA of no less than 80% and no grade below 80% in their major subjects as shown in their Transcript of Records or TOR.
- All student applicants must obtain a rating of PASS on the Standardized Aptitude Test for Teacher or SATT given during advising.
Student applicants who FAIL the SATT are still accepted into the program. However, they are given one-year probationary period wherein they have to pass ALL subjects taken during the given year, with no grade below 80% in any one subject.
