Shielded Metal Arc Welding (NC I) 1

shielded metal arc welding

The program is designed to develop the necessary entry-level competencies for work in the production welding and metal fabrication industries.

COURSE CODE:
TVI-001
UNITS:
1

Arc welding is a welding process that is used to join metal to metal by using electricity to create enough heat to melt metal, and the melted metals, when cool, result in a binding of the metals. SMAW can be used for a variety of metal types and various thicknesses. It is often used for heavy-duty work involving industrial iron and steel, like carbon steel and cast iron, as well as work involving low- and high-alloy steels and nickel alloys.

The Welding NC I (SMAW) Qualification consists of competencies that a person must achieve to weld carbon steel plates components as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, work order, welding procedure or oral instructions using SMAW welding equipment.

Basic Competencies:

  • Receive and respond to workplace communication
  • Work with others
  • Demonstrate work values
  • Practice basic housekeeping procedures
