NC receives 1 slot scholarship from TESDA for SMAW training
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Negros Oriental provincial office has allocated 1 slot for Negros College Inc. under its Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP).
The program can accommodate at least 20 students to undergo a comprehensive skill training in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I.
An orientation of the said program was successfully conducted last December 14, 2021 at NC campus in Tampocon II, Ayungon, Negros Oriental. Mr. Greg Glenrey V. Igo, a representative from TESDA Provincial office in Dumaguete City led the orientation together with TVI Administrator/President Dr. Maria Nenita T. Dayagdag, CPA; Mr. Jonathan B. Dayagdag, Vice President for Administration; Mr. BB Boy Michael Jaydawn E. Que, the trainer of SMAW NCI; Mrs. Justin G. Florencio, Human Resource Officer and Shilery R. Opada, TVI Representative. Also attended the orientation were the 20 student beneficiaries.
The TWSP is a national program of TESDA that provides immediate interventions to meet the need for highly critical skills. The program has two-fold objectives:
- to purposively drive TVET provision to available jobs through incentives and appropriate training programs that are directly connected to existing jobs for immediate employment, both locally and overseas,
- to build and strengthen the capacity and capability of TVET institutions in expanding and improving the delivery of quality, efficient and relevant training programs that meet job requirements, including programs for higher levels of technology.
This program is a response to the clamor of industry to address the critical skills shortages in priority sectors, particularly the Business Process Outsourcing, metals and engineering, construction and tourism, among others.
The scholars, aside from the free training and assessment, could avail of the internet allowance and personal protective equipment (PPE) in the amount of PHP500 each and training support fund of PHP160 per day.
